Some guy on the team I just joined asked me tongiht why he doesn’t see a lot of female DPS players. Then shut me down the second I started talking about toxic masculinity. Except...thats the issue.  Esports is still a ‘boys club.’   Being a female career gamer means putting up with sexual harassment-including death and rape treats, by FANS, OTHER PLAYERS, AND STAFF.  Then being told to learn to take a ‘joke’ or get over it.  Then there’s the accusations of sleeping to get to the top.  Of being boosted by a ‘boyfriend.’  Of being told you HAVE  to play healer, and screamed at when you don’t.  The guys who throw.  The men who pretend to be girls.  The embarrassing comments about what you look like-’are you playing naked?’ ‘you must be ugly if you’re doing this.’  Getting blamed for losses.  Being told you don’t belong there. That no one wants you. The teams that won’t hire girls who are just as good as the guys because men are preferred.  There is only ONE woman player in Overwatch League.  No one believes you or takes you seriously when you try to talk about it. Add in much pressure playing professional esprots is, its damn exhausting. And women deal with it. Every. Single. Day.
