AIO being Profiled or honest mistake?
I was in the buffet area of a Delta Sky Club getting a drink to go with my meal when another guest walked up to me and asked, "Do you work here?"
I was confused because I was holding a drink, dressed in gray sweats, a graphic T-shirt, sneakers, and had my backpack with me. I asked, "Why would you think I work here dressed like this?"
She responded, "You look like one of the girls I've seen working here... with the glasses and the black..." Then she suddenly stopped talking.
I just looked at her and said, "Seriously?" She walked away without apologizing.
The interaction must have been obvious because another guest came over afterward and apologized to me, saying there was no excuse for it. A few other people nearby looked shocked, and another person told me, "Don't let that ruin your experience."
I've been going to Delta Sky Clubs regularly for about 4–5 years and have never had anything like this happen before.
I ended up reporting the interaction to the front desk because the comment didn't sit right with me. They were able to identify the guest from the check-in records and said they would notify the manager. The manager apologized and said they would follow up.
Now I'm wondering if I overreacted by reporting it. Part of me feels like she may have just made an awkward mistake, but the way she stopped herself after saying "the black..." made me question whether there was more to it.
