The Time: Flashback to Undergrad, Preparing for the ACS Organic Chemistry Examination.

The Space: Prof. Slick's office.

Me: Hey Prof. Slick, what's a "carbene"?

Prof. Slick: You don't know what a carbene is? You didn't cover this?

Me: Nope?

Note: Prof. Slick was my professor for both semesters of organic chemistry. And, no, we didn't ever cover carbene chemistry.
