Verse of the Week
9/10/2025
How long does it take for a vase to be formed? How long does it take for glass to be molded and shaped? Can the finest jewelry be crafted in the blink of an eye? Can the best breads be baked in the time it takes to take a breath? Can roses go from seed to full bloom in seconds?
No. Of course not. The best things take time and work.
It’s the same way with us.
God saving us is immediate and instant. God molding us into someone better is a process.
It’s called progressive sanctification.
Progressive sanctification means that when we partner with God in walking with Him and learning how to be a better person, how to reflect Jesus instead of continuing to choose our old ways, God works on us progressively. It’s not instant.
Imagine a sculptor taking a piece of marble. He can’t just take his chisel to a specific spot on it, tap it lightly with his hammer, and then boom! Instant, perfect sculpture. No. No no, that’s not how it works.
The sculptor is methodical in his approach, constantly watching the marble and looking for places that are weak or cracked already or whatever the case may be. And little by little, bit by bit, the unnecessary, the burdensome, the bad parts of the marble fall away and eventually a masterpiece is left in its place.
That is what happens with those of us who choose to walk with God. Once we’re saved, we’re always saved. It’s immediate and eternal.
Becoming more like Christ? That takes time and work and partnership with God.
But guess what? You’re literally in the best of hands. You’re going to be okay.
