A long time ago I drew Gwyn for a contest, and like everyone else, she also gets an updated redesign! Since then I have improved in drawing both hyena and seahorse anatomy. Yes, she is a freak and yes I love her

Also I think out of all the hyena species my favorite's always been the striped hyenas. They're just so pretty! I don't see enough of them in character designs, though I understand the love for spotted hyenas is well-deserved. <3

Project 30: Lights, Camera, Action - V for Vendetta

V for Vendetta is one of those movies that I enjoy time and time again. I wanted to focus on the writing of the movie and in particular, the opening monologue by Evey about the power of ideas. In contrast with the theatrical posters which have a very propaganda feel, I wanted the distressed type to reflect the oppression of the London people throughout the film and to have the actual words compliment the visuals in the background, be it contradictory or adjacent in tone.

Project 30: Lights, Camera, Action! - Ready Player One

The literal second I was told what the prompt was for this month's project, my mind immediately sprinted to my favourite book - Ready Player One, which recently got picked up as a movie to be directed by the legend himself, Steven Spielberg. The entire plot of the book heavily focuses on the main character (and everyone else in the world) trying to acquire three keys in order to obtain control of an online virtual reality network known as the OASIS, so I made those three keys the focus of my poster as well. Also, the book is riddled with 80's video game and pop culture references, which influenced me to treat the overall poster like an old, worn frame of film, combined with a subtle touch of digital pixels. It was really dope being asked to be the guest designer this month, and I thoroughly enjoyed making this poster! Thanks everyone for having me, and I hope to be back again soon :) - Graham

Project 30: Lights, Camera, Action! - Christopher Nolan

I’ve always loved cinnemagraph style imagery. For this challenge, I decided to take that approach with poster designs for two of my favorite Christopher Nolan films. I almost added a third to the set, Batman Begins, but if I started a poster for Nolan’s first Batman film, I’d feel compelled to do designs for the whole saga… so that will have to wait for another time ;)

Project 30: Lights, Camera, Action! - Darren Aronofsky

Hey guys! Long time no see. For this project, I went and focused on making posters for one of my favorite directors, Darren Aronofsky. Personally, I love that he was able to go and create so many different movie styles, while still allowing each film to still be uniquely his. I chose three of my favorites from him, The Fountain, Black Swan and The Wrestler.

Glad to be back on the LSo grind and looking forward to creating more wonderful things!

Project 30: Lights, Camera, Action (Part I)

For this project, I decided to design a tryptic of Martin Scorsese film posters. I chose these movies because (besides being my favorites) they all share common symbolism. I chose the tone-on-tone black/varnish to show that everything isn’t quite what it seems in those films. I also chose red, as that color is very important in all three films. The use of red in each poster symbolizes an important point in the film: an X can be found before any death in The Departed; the red of dawn before the final fight in Gangs of New York and the red tail lights at the beginning of the film in Goodfellas.

There will be a part II of this project: I was originally going to screen print these with fancy shiny varnish but it didn’t arrive in time. So stay tuned!
