Project Embrace [X]
Another initiative for Project Embrace that we had was a photo drive both for the university and the national elections.
We asked students to pose with a Form 5 and an indelible mark on their index finger (stamp ink was used) to symbolize that each of us should exercise our right to vote.
Project Embrace is an annual campaign initiative of UP CMC ISA which calls individuals to embrace particular calls. Previous advocacies include embracing members of the LGBTQ+, Persons With Special Needs (PWSNs), and what it is to be a Filipino.
All photos used in this post were shot and post-processed by me.

PANEL
Lekia Lée
Lekia Lée, a broadcast journalist, natural hair mentor, beauty advocate and image activist, is the founder of Project Embrace, a social enterprise creating and promoting positive images of Afro textured hair with their soon-to-be launched billboard campaign.
Project Embrace challenging the narrow perception of beautiful hair, aims to encourage diversity in the beauty and fashion industry.
According to Lekia, research has shown that dissatisfaction with personal looks is linked to unhealthy wellbeing and low self-esteem; “hence my strapline – I am Enough. I hope to encourage women and girls to use their beauty as a source of empowerment and not a source of anxiety. When you feel empowered you can achieve anything. It is all about demanding equality and the right to express your authentic beauty. The problem is not that we appreciate beauty, but that the definition of beauty is narrow.”

About
Project Embrace is a silent, public photo shoot campaign to promote anti-discrimination of (but not limited to) the LGBT community.
Mission
Project Embrace was started to fulfill four goals: • Create a culture of acceptance with regards to diversity in every person. • Raise awareness on LGBT hate crimes in the Philippines. • Raise awareness on gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation and the transgender community especially with the heterosexual community. • Lessen homophobia and LGBT hate crimes in UP and in the Philippines as a whole.
Description
The main purpose of Project Embrace is to create a culture of acceptance in diversity, mainly (but not limited to) the LGBT community. The project also hopes to raise awareness with regards to LGBT hate crimes through a side-by-side online information campaign and public photo shoot with an exhibit of outtakes from the photo shoot to follow. The purpose of Project Embrace is simple and definite and does not overlap with other LGBT related advocacies. It is in fact true that people have varied beliefs with regards to LGBT rights, but Project Embrace aims to unite everyone who simply wishes to embrace each and every one’s diversity and to raise awareness against discrimination and hate targeted towards the LGBT community to prevent hate crimes from taking place.
