I wasn't on the Max-isn't-Max bandwagon fully until I synced up these "I don't understand" scenes.

Also, sorry for the lo-fi solution for trying to capture it.. Hopefully this gets the point across that the caves really seem like a TRAP! Seems very Red Riding Hood-esque.

I'm gonna go ahead and call this Max "Shadow Max." Like, "Shadow Brenner" in the VR game. Did anyone else notice how Shadow Max double-takes Henry's Boy Scout neckerchief slide?

And this might sound nuts, but even if this is a Shadow Max of some kind, I still think that the flashback scenes that illustrate her story could possibly our Actual Max's experiences when she first arrived. In fact, if you sync up these resuscitation-from-cardiac-arrest moments, Flashback Max & this scene of El (just a few minutes earlier in S4E5) seem to parallel each other, too. For real. But my eyes are tired and apparently Tumblr only allows 1 video at a time, so I might post that separately.

buckle in we're gonna look at both scenes of el's birth. let's start with terry's memory in 2x05

here is the timeline of occurrences in order:

one of the babies is birthed

then they show that terry is super out of it (later when she wakes up she tells her sister that she heard jane crying, i think this is that.)

brenner puts his mask on his chin

NOW......

el's memory from 4x07:

BRENNERS MASK IS ON HIS CHIN WHILE EL IS DELIEVERED

terry is way more conscious

she says "jane, i love you"

THERES LITERALLY TWO BABIES...... GUYS.........................

the first baby wasn't el i'm assuming. maybe that's why terry had to be really knocked out so she wouldn't remember 2 babies being birthed if the lab kept it a secret from her that she actually was pregnant with twins.

basically in s2 they passed off that baby as el when it was her twin because as we see in nina, el's literal memory shows that's not how it went down.

also when she goes into labor she's bleeding and a LOT which isn't normal. bet her labor was induced too early purposefully from an outside force/the lab bc why wouldn't they do that lmao

Interesting how Flashback Max's (who I think is our actual Max's) scenes after cardiac arrest resuscitation line up with El's at NINA in S4E5.

I don't think it's a coincidence that the Thanksgiving and Christmas plans fell through.

I don't think it's a coincidence that Jonathan's car was broken down and never got fixed.

I don't think it's a coincidence that this student looks similar to Patty (from the First Shadow).

I don't think it's a coincidence that the family got their first visitors and received Hopper's ransom/escape note around the same time that Vecna started attacking students in Hawkins,

& (as painful as it is) sometimes I even question the "realness" of Surfer Boy pizza and Argyle sometimes, because it sure is convenient that he was able to just drive the kids around town so that Jon didn't have to get his car fixed. It reminds me of how Patty supposedly says something in TFS to Henry about how his powers are "just a drug to keep you distracted while it eats you alive."
