Project Smalltown (a.k.a. Stars Hollow) - Town square shops tour (1)

In the next few posts, I’ll give you a tour of Smalltown center. Today, I’m focusing on the town square shops. It’s 4 shops in total, all of them located in the same lot, next to the library and the gazebo. These will be my NPC-run stores, since they are types of stores that I don’t like to actively manage, but that I like my sims to visit.

In the pictures, you can see the first two shops: the corner store (loosely based on Doose’s market) and the florists/herbs store. As you will see, they are not very “fancy” but I wanted to keep true to the “small town” feeling, so nothing too over-the-top, etc.

Since Tumblr is acting out today I divided this post in two parts. In the next post, I’ll show you the other two stores: the antique shop and the baby store!

Project Smalltown (a.k.a. Stars Hollow) - Main street shops - Conklin Bakery

The Conklin bakery is run by Francine Conklin, one of the most respected and loved members of Smalltown’s community. She wakes up every day at 4am to bake bread and pastries and sell them at her little shop. A widow for longer than she was married, Francine is as sweet as she is independent and charismatic. She is grateful her daughter, Hannah, who runs the music store next door, is so close by.

P.S. I’m sorry, I’ve been kind of slow with this, but I’m creating businesses at the same time I create the families that run them (and build their houses) so it’s kind of a slow process!

Project Smalltown (a.k.a. Stars Hollow)

Very close to the town square, one can find Smalltown’s finest stores and club hangouts: a bakery (interior inspired by Weston’s bakery), a music shop (in honor of Sophie of course), and a bookstore which is usually converted into a “casual” movie theater where vintage movies are screened.

Just around the corner (last two pictures), you can find the “churchagogue”, as well as one of my favorite buildings...extra points if anybody guesses which Stars Hollow business it’s based on.

I built these with playability in mind. My idea is to have one family own and operate the bakery and the music shop. The rest of the buildings will be used as club hangouts; and of course the church will also be used for weddings :)

PS: Some people have asked if I’m going to share these lots. The answer is: definitely yes. But I want to finish and test them all first!

Project Smalltown (a.k.a. Stars Hollow) - The library

Boasting a privileged spot in the historic heart of Smalltown, the town’s library houses a rich collection of books which includes some rare manuscripts from the 1700s. Note that due to Simnation federal funds cuts, the computers could really use an upgrade.

And as promised we move on to the second part of the town square. Next to the florist’s shop you can find The Pink Bunny, which is the perfect place for mothers and fathers to be to buy all their baby needs. They also sell voicritters cards and toys for the little ones. And no town square would be complete without an antiques shop. Smalltown’s antiques is actually on an alley, very close to the square. Go up the stairs and get lost in the wonderful world of Yesteryear! But beware, supernatural lovers like to hang out at this store to browse the old Vampyr tomes on its shelves…
