Look, I’m still reeling from the whole “a bunch of Mayo breathing cousin fuckers just stormed the US capital for the first time in 200 years” thing, so fandom brain may be unavailable for a day or five.
Summer ADHD brain: Has plenty of time to write but can’t put more than two sentences together.
Fall ADHD brain: Has no time to write but inspiration abounds accompanied with a strong need to make words.
My super cool holistic physical therapist who is seemingly super Catholic turns out to be just as super anti-Trump.
And for just an instant, all is right with the world.
That moment when you realize that inspiring perpetual hate boners in Angry White Men (tm) is, in fact, your special talent.
It’s not people’s lives or the economy—that’s a false dichotomy. The economy serves people, not the other way around, and if 5-20% of us suddenly drop dead, it’s screwed anyway for the foreseeable future.
Can we just stop with this garbage narrative that it’s okay to sacrifice people in the name of the prosperity myth, please and thank you?
So two thoughts—
The first is an obvious observation:
John is clearly the protagonist of season one—the series focuses on his POV most of the time and it ends with him defeating the primary antagonist Arlo publicly. (I don’t mean to say that Arlo is the central villain, but many stories in this genre will have an antagonist of the moment with a background larger antagonist for the entire arc of the story. Arguably, Arlo is that antagonist in season 1).
This has shifted for season two, where Sera is pretty clearly the protagonist—she’s the primary focal character—and John is the primary antagonist (the main series antagonists—EMBER and, likely, the authorities haven’t changed, but they’re still pretty background).
This leads me to my speculation:
The primary problem this season is really “how the hell do we beat John?” He’s the OP antagonist currently terrorizing the school (well, he’s not doing a whole lot of anything just now, but his role as “Joker” has caused lasting chaos.)
I actually think Isen may be the key to overpowering him, and that overpowering him might be the only way to begin helping him.
So, why Isen?
Think about it. His ability is “hunting,” but Isen has never seemed particularly interested in developing it. His primary focus has been on being a journalist. But a hunting ability could very well include sensing weaknesses/a way to beat his “quarry.” If Isen were to develop his ability further, or even just to be backed enough into a corner, he could potentially discover such an aspect to his ability, giving them a way to defeat John.
Or at least, that’s one way things could play out.
Just my thoughts for the day.
Hopefully you all can keep enduring my Kain Highwind spam. That fucker was my first character obsession so he holds an enduringly special place in my heart. Imagine 16 year old me, blowing through the rental game in 24 hours to avoid late fees, then begging the parentals for my own copy.
I have owned every version of this game I could get my hands on. It’s still my all time fave.
