Promotion test!
It was a fairly small class to start at first, but a few more folks trickled in as we warmed up. Speaking of which, Master Chung had Eric warm us up. It was pretty low-key otherwise.
Master Chung singled out the lowest belts and had them do their forms, sparring, self-defense, and breaking. He had them sit and the rest of us got up for our forms. Chun-ji through taegeuk 8, than Master Chung had me sit. Koryo, and the Colin sat down. Then he had the black belts do a few more.
Then Master Chung got the kids back up for their sparring, self defense, and breaking.
After that, he dismissed class - test over!
And then he remembered that I was still there.
He quickly ran me through all 12 self defense forms (with Mark), sparring (with Mark, and then breaking - another reverse roundhouse speed break followed by a jumping front snap kick. Got ‘em both on the first try. Hit the jumping snap kick so hard I thought one of the pieces was going to break the mirror. Oops!
I’m now at the point where they enforce a set amount of time between belts; our school does this by making you earn stars on your belt. I need to earn 2 stars before I can test for 1st gup (what my school calls deputy black belt, but other schools have called it cho-dan-bo). Today, assuming I pass (and I feel pretty good about it), I’ll get my first star.
