Here’s some backstory about the design from the owner (@gsuno)
“2018: Wanting to do my part in shaking shit up, I decided to vote for the first time. The big thing on the ballot (for me) worked out, but didnt. Yall seent it! Hollared at my favorite to flip an iconic piece. "Props 2 Lunares" drops tomorrow #homerunners“
Proposition 2 has passed! Yay for medical marijuana, and the 54% of Utahns who were for medical, and also the people who supported Prop 2! Your vote really does matter. ✨
there's a ballot initiative in california this year that would raise the state minimum wage to $17/hour, which sounds like a lot if you don't work minimum wage or live in california, but every time we talk about the minimum wage i got and check what the march on washington for jobs and freedom — the one where MLK gave the I Have A Dream speech in 1963 — was demanding, and we *still* haven't hit that mark.
they were demanding a $2/hour national minimum wage, which was the equivalent of *$20/hour in 2024 dollars.*
fuck, man, the california minimum wage peaked in 1968 at 1.65/hour, the equivalent of $14.82/hour today. this bump, please god it passes, would be the first *actual improvement* in california's minimum wage since *1968.*
Affordable housing currently has more political will than ever before. In November, Californians passed a number of measures to help ease the housing crisis, and legislators were eager to begin act…
Utah Lawmakers undermine the peoples vote in favor of the LDS Church | We the People: Your Voice in Our Government
Hello everyone!
Recently the state of Utah has had a vote on several new laws and legislations. One of these was a bill that would legalize medical marijuana under the same strict rules that every other legal stage uses. More than half of Utahans voted to legalize medical marijuana, which means it should have passed.
However, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormons) has gone against the Constitution and interfered with politics. They have paid politicians to swing the vote in favor of their teachings and beliefs. They hold the most seats in the Utah government. They use their church values to determine whether or not a law passes. This is direct violation of separation of church and state.
In interfering with this recent vote, the Mormon Church has come up with a “compromise bill” which is in no way a compromise and makes it virtually impossible for anyone in the state to qualify for the use of medical marijuana. The majority of Utah DID NOT vote for the “compromise” and openly reject the involvement of the Mormon Church in this vote.
As an ex-member, I have seen firsthand how extreme the church is when it comes to views on popular political arguments. I left the church and have put in a resignation letter saying I no longer wish to even be on their records because they preach that those who are part of the lgbt+ community are sinners and unwelcome, that children of gay/lesbian couples are not welcome to be baptized into the church and taught that their parents are going to Hell, that divorce is a method of the devil, that abortions are against gods will and that the fetus is more important, that victims of rape are not worthy of God’s love unless they repent when there is nothing to repent of, that swearing means you are unintelligent and don’t care for God, that not reading your scriptures is a sin, that not praying every morning and every meal time and every night before bed makes you weak, that you have to pay 10% of your monthly income or you won’t receive all of God’s blessings, etc.
The Mormon Church is a toxic cult that consistently teaches hate against anyone who is not exactly like them while preaching “love one another”. I have seen this in my own family. I came out as bisexual to my sisters, and they said they loved me but that I needed to pray that God would give me control over my sin and to repent and that they could never support me because it would go against God. I was raped in high school and I went to my bishop for help. He told me it was my fault for being in a situation where Satan could tempt me. He told me I was no longer worthy of God’s love because an asshole boy decided he wasn’t going to respect me saying no. And it isn’t just me.
Utah’s suicide rate has skyrocketed in recent years, and if you don’t believe me, a student at BYU Provo jumped off the fourth story of one of the campus buildings just yesterday in an attempt at suicide. But because BYU is directly affiliated with the church, they tried to make it seem like an accident and not an attempt at suicide so they could draw attention away from themselves again.
I know this has been a long, ranting post, but I am posting this because those of us who voted for the ORIGINAL law demand to be heard. But we cannot do it alone. The link included is a petition to veto the “compromise” and instead listen to the voters and give us a voice. You don’t have to be in Utah, you don’t even have to be in the US, but please sign this and spread it around!
Legalizing medical marijuana would help save so many lives. It would have saved both of my grandmas’ lives. It would have saved my best friend’s mother. It could save my aunt. It has the ability to save so many people, and the church wishes to stifle it.
Please please please sign this and spread it around!
medical marijuana passed last night. i am so happy i could cry. finally, i will eventually have some relief from symptoms and not have to mask it with opioids or something more harmful to my body.
thanks, missouri.
What a beautiful day to be living in Utah.
