Yo Michigan Voters
This November there is a really cool proposal on the Michigan ballot called Proposal 3 or #PromoteTheVote. Right now, you must be registered at least 30 Days before an election in order to vote in Michigan. That’s wild. For people who don’t have easy access to transportation, people who work multiple jobs, people in military families who move around that 30 day limit can be a HUGE burden. Count in the people who are just forgetful and miss the cutoff and that’s a lot of eligible voters every election who miss out on having their voice heard.
Prop. 3 would allow voters to register through mail up until 15 days prior to the election AND *drumroll please* WOULD ALLOW IN-PERSON REGISTERTATION THROUGH ELECTION DAY!!! If that’s not cool enough, Prop. 3 would allow anyone to vote through absentee ballot. People who work multiple jobs or work jobs that don’t get off for Election Day could vote! People who get anxious being in the crowds of people on Election Day could vote! People who couldn’t get to the polls because of a long travel distance could vote! THAT’S SO MANY PEOPLE WHO WOULD NOW BE ABLE TO VOTE OR VOTE MORE EASILY!!! Exciting stuff, right??
Cherry on top?? People could be automatically registered to vote when they interact with the Secretary of State for a different reason! Renewing your driver’s license? You can be registered to vote too! Getting your state ID? You’re a registered voter now too!!
Why would we not make voter registration and voting as accessible and easy as possible???? I don’t know either. Voting “Yes” on Prop. 3 would get Michigan there.
TLDR: Voting YES on Prop. 3 makes voting & voter registration so much easier.
