Yellow Diamond’s poofing of her own Zircon certainly does not mean that she is guilty of killing Pink Diamond and trying to cover it up, like I’ve heard suggested.
Don’t forget, Yellow Diamond is the gem who said, “She was shattered by a rose quartz! The entire cut of gem deserves the same fate!” Yellow Diamond will extrapolate the sins of one gem to all others of the same kind. Since the defense Zircon dared to imply that any of the Diamonds killed Pink Diamond, then all Zircons must also harbor such treasonous thoughts.
Later, I think Yellow Diamond will calm down, and certainly won’t shatter her Zircon. (I am worried about the fate of the defense Zircon, though.) But in the heat of emotion, she reacted, and poofed both Zircons.
