Writing Tip February 8th
For me, the hardest part of creating my protagonist is making them flawed. I tend to unconsciously make them a little too perfect (and therefore boring). I’ve put together a list of my favorite forgivable flaws that I look at when designing a new protagonist:
Absent-minded, addict, aimless, anxious, arrogant, audacious, avoids facing problems, big-mouth, blunt, callous, distracted easily, distrusting, egotistical, envious, erratic, fanaticism, finicky, fixation, gruff, gullible, humorless, hypocritical, idealist, impatient, indecisive, indifferent, immature, judgmental, manipulative, meddlesome, meek, melodramatic, naïve, nosey, overprotective, overconfident, overzealous, possessive, pyromaniac, reckless, sarcastic/ smart ass (all-time favorite), self-righteous, self-pitying, short-tempered, stubborn, tactless, thief, timid, troublemaker, vain, wasteful, withdrawn.
Keep in mind these are just my personal favorite; there’s a crazy number of flaws out there you can use to make your character memorable, this is just to help you get started.
An incomplete sprite for Emily the protagonist of For the Love of Tea
I’m sorry if she looks like Mint from Tokyo Mew Mew, that was completely unintentional.
