I've been waiting for this confirmation. That Merlin 'perserved her mindset' and crossed a threshold she never should have.
Merlin's story is over, as is the story of Camelot.
The knights are dead. The castle is ruined. The Britain they worked for is gone. Everyone should have accepted it. Her counterpart accepted it.
And yet, here ProtoMerlin stands, refusing to accept it. Sending Arthur out for one last quest. Waiting for that promised deus ex machina. That in Britain's great hour of need, Arthur and Camelot and those dreamlike days will return.
And when Draco, her opposite and enemy calls her on it, she actually drops her smile, but has no retort.
Because this is the one thing she can't make light of.
