September 14, 2020 - So what the heck ever happened to me?
Well, it's been too damn long. And I suppose at least some of the people who follow me are wondering what the eff is going on with The Other Stephen Cobert. Here's an answer.
I reported a little over a year ago that my mother passed away, two years almost to the day after my father's passing. I got the first part of my inheritance in late June of lat year, and the second part after the estate was settled last February. My parents weren't real rich as that term is usually used, but it was a tidy sum.
So what, you ask? Simply this: Looking back now, I see that I took those opportunities to get nice and deep into my Comfort Zone. I mean... why cook when there's a McAlister's Deli just down the street? And a Chipotle, and a Panera, and a Firehouse Subs, and a Freddy's Frozen Custard and... you get the picture. Okay, I got on the bicycle some, but now that I could afford cab fare it was too easy to blow off working out because it was too cold or too windy (excuses that never stopped me in years past).
On July 1 of this year I bicycled to the nearby mall to meet up with my granddaughter and buy her some clothes as an early birthday present. When we got back to the entrance I discovered someone had stolen my bike... cut through the cable and made off with it. I filed a police report and reported it to the Mall security (and discovered there was no camera covering that area) but to date have had no notices or anything. On two occasions I went to Walmart and bought a cheap bicycle there, only to have them fall apart on me after less than five miles of riding. (Glad I kept the receipts.)
In late July my doctor told me that my body was retaining water and she prescribed some water pills, and for the first time in awhile I saw some weight loss. I got back into running in early August, only to have that cut short when I developed a bad infection in my right knee. Last week I got in two decent runs on Thursday and Saturday, and then today I got in another, longer run. (The above selfie is from the end of today's run.)
My weight as of yesterday was 263.8. Long time readers of my blog may be shocked because that is way more than I weighed just a few years ago... but I hasten to add that is a walloping TEN POUNDS less than I weighed at the beginning of August. In fact, it's the least I have weighed since mid-March, and I don't think the timing is any coincidence. By the way, the weekend closest to September 14 is my more or less official anniversary of the start of my health and fitness journey. I hate reporting that, here on my seventh anniversary, I am on track after throwing away almost all the progress I'd made since September of 2013. But at least I AM back on track.
