A Wife of Noble Character

“A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value. She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life.”

“She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue.” (25-26)
this is the woman who i want to become. strong and steadfast, wise and caring.
when i first read this passage, titled the wife of a noble character, i at first thought that the passage would be telling me that the only proper way to be a woman is a submissive one, one that cares for her husband and household, and truth be told, i was scared. i strayed away from the church at a younger age beacuse i felt like it pressured women to fit into that submissive box; i always believed in God (more at some times than others), but i didn’t want to belong to a community that forces women into this role.
however, the section i highlighted shows that God expects more from women than the views i was exposed to in the Church, and this encouraged me.
as a modern woman, i sometimes feel wrong for wanting to be a wife, mother, and teacher. there is nothing wrong with these roles, but they are traditionally feminine, and i fear that some will think that i was forced into this role. i really wasn’t. i always have wanted to be a person who serves and helps others, and i feel like taking on these traditional feminine roles is a way for me to do so.
