I keep seeing people talking about provider and I will say it once again, that song feels like Vessel being desperate. Trying to change himself for a person who doesn’t want the real him. Who only wants to have a part of him. In this case, the sexual aspect. He is fitting himself into a shape that isn’t *right* (no disrespect to anyone who found it sexy and fun btw) it’s uncomfortable, it feels wrong. Until we hit the part where he sings “your fingers, foxtrot on my skin.” Annnnnd that. When we hear “our bodies converse like old friends.” That.

That is where the real Vessel is again. His romantic words, his ache. His need for this to work out. The real depths of his emotions. They are so far from shallow. But he wants it to work out so badly (this time) he sings. This time. He will make it work. It’s desperate, it’s wanting to be the provider, the sexy lust-filled person that his lover wants. And it does not feel like the Vessel we know. And I think that is so on purpose. (Or maybe he just had fun writing a sexy song lol.)

No actually I wouldn't have known provider was meant to be a sexy song, I almost cried listening to it first time (yeah I listened to it after Gethsemane, maybe that had something to do with it)

Same reaction to sugar (aside from almost crying) maybe this is just my aroace ass picking up on other emotions but those were not positive relationship songs in the slightest

this has probably already been said by someone much more intelligent and well-put-together than i am but i need to get my thoughts out. uh lotta yapping about Provider below

i know Provider has become Even in Arcadia's Sugar or The Summoning and that everyone's just seeing it as a sensual song to make babies to idk. which it really is, its definitely freaky like that and as much as i don't like reducing Sleep Token to "baby making music" (🤢) i can see why people are calling it that.

but does anyone else see it like a situationship/fwb/fling/whatever you wanna call it?

cuz like at first listen it really does just sound like getting freaky. but i look through the lyrics some more and it really feels like Vessel is begging this person (he says good girl so i'm gonna ASSUME it's a woman but nothing confirmed) that they can be more.

like he says "i wanna be your provider", "just let me know that you're mine", "i can give you what you want", "i can get it so right", and ESPECIALLY "even in the daylight". like all of this + the sensual nature of the song + the longing both in Vessel's voice and a lot of the music in general, it really just screams to me that this is some kinda relationship that's limited to sexual relations. he wants to be more, to be proper lovers, to give her what she wants because he knows he can get it right. to be hers even in the daylight, not just in the dark of the night or whatever. which connects back to like the whole discography but im not smart enough to do all that

ALSO i know Gethsemane isn't a direct parallel to Provider like i've seen some people say, like they're not REALLY two sides of a coin. but i feel like some lines from Gethsemane definitely add up here, mainly "your undercover lover" and "I was your robot companion, you were my favourite colour" and "I was in love with the thought that we were in love with each other". like it definitely seems like this was some kinda fling/situationship/whatever that was very limited in romance but Vessel craved something more (what's new). am i making sense can anyone hear me. there's definitely a better way to put all of this but im too slow for that so here's this

also i cannot tell for the life of me if this is technically looking too far into it or not. my INTENT is to just analyze the music and share my interpretation but if i AM looking too far into it or being weird or parasocial like tell me. after Caramel that's the last thing i wanna do.
