The Terror of Comfort

Where is life

and the I of it

upon request

and invitation 

----

to forget;

unlearn?

to innocent the soul

creating a vehicle

----

for wisdom 

freedom.  And yet

finding self

in rapid retreat

----

toward a security-

payoff immediate-

of proof, adoration, success, virility

holding close those cords 

----

of flailing hope

in that which

'I know I know.'

Better, the death of forgetting

----

letting go.  This

slightly desired mixed

with simultaneous

deepest loathing of loss

----

Oh, what can be done

to be freed from clutching

of such great terror 

as precious comfort?
