Might get a little existential since it’s both self-referential and because I don’t exactly know the “popular” opinions about me, but.....
Unpopular Opinion: Deadlock is such a weird song. Not in the context of the song itself, but rather my relationship to it. It was originally made as a song out of frustration, specifically responding to creative block, being unable to create new things. Even when making it, I kinda lampshaded this by putting in the “Worry For Naught Arpeggio”, which I’d come to call it. This is essentially the first four notes of the synth solo in Worry For Naught. At the time of making it, I’d noticed I was just putting it into a LOT of my music as a sort of supplement.
This has become really ironic because Deadlock is now one of my favorite songs of all time (yay ego), but now I find myself putting the melody of Deadlock into plenty of other songs. On one hand I don’t mind it both because I love the melody I made in Deadlock, but also because fuck it, it’s my music. On the other, it’s impossible to not see the irony of me constantly latching onto the song that I made out of frustration of not creating anything new.
I don’t think I’ll be letting go of Deadlock any time soon (nor do I think I necessarily NEED to), but the comparison is sort of funny.
Also shoutouts to me for not turning this prompt into a big self-deprecation post
