Game Journal 03/17/2020: The Tragedy of Libertalia in Uncharted 4
Spoilers for Uncharted 4
Have you heard the tale of Darth Plagueis the wise?....Because you won’t hear it here, this is a whole other sad state of affairs. I wrote yesterday that Uncharted 4 was great at conveying tragedy and bitter ends, and more so than the sad old woman who’s house you break into earlier in the game, the big reveal of the fate of the entire colony of Libertalia is...significantly more grim than that. What initially seems like a paradise for the lawless pirate captains turned out to be more an opulent island nightmare. A civil war, a thieving central government (What do you expect when your central government is a bunch of notorious pirates though?) and a long line betrayals and aggression all lead to the pivotal reveal of the dinner party near the end of your adventure. When you crack open those grand hall doors and see nothing but skeletons slumped over that dining table, you instantly understand what happened. These pirates couldn’t set aside their greed even among their closest friends and their line of betrayals (seen as you explore their homes, from dead brothers to hung wives) ended here with all but two of them being poisoned and left to rot at a fake dinner party. It’s a big reveal, but ultimately a small scene. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a grand twist and a great denouement to the concept of a colony run by literal pirates. There was only one way that could end, and so it did.
Couldn’t have put it better myself, Drake.
Stray Game Notes: -The design of New Devon really is something to behold, I love the flooded opulence of the mansions half sunk into the river. It gets even better when you finally piece the timeline of events together. - Libertalia itself is a huge treat of visual design, i’ll probably write something specifically about it in the future! - I also played some more DOOM 3 today, not much to update, still find it to be an odd game, albeit a good one! - Played a bit of the original DOOM as well, look I’m really excited for DOOM Eternal i’m just trying to get my fix!
- DOOM is in all caps, don’t talk to me if you think otherwise.
Felt cute, might override a robot t-rex and ride it into the city to avenge my fallen mother later. IDK.

Can’t Hold On Or Life Won’t Change
I stand by this statement. That and NO, you won’t get a free game if you owned the original, Persona 5 Royal is a brand new game, not a free DLC. Get over it or don’t buy it.
