High smoke maine coon kittens with irregular silvering
Hiiii not really a question but i wanted to share my kitty with you, he is a red silver pseudo merle :3
He's a very pretty boy and he often gets mistaken for a calico lol
Wow, gorgeous!
check out this lil guy at my shelter who looks like he has both cream and red! maybe it's just regular red with extremely high contrast? either way he's a good little friend.
Very interesting cat!
He might be what some people call 'pseudomerle', when the silver allele fails in some places (here's the messybeast page and a facebook group).
Related to the tortie tournament, I glanced at r/catgenetics just now and proceeded to absolutely lose it- one of the cats I posted for the tournament (the silver tort with the Blotched Machine Broke markings) has had a post put up in there by her new owners asking about her pseudo-merle-ness! Good for her on her new home! Definitely not what I was expecting to see today! (and it's definitely her, not just a cat that looks similar, because just one of the photos is one of the photos from her adopt page that we have saved!)
What a coincidence! I'm glad her new owners are able to appreciate her uniqueness 💞
I am nominating my calico Opal for the tournament.
She's a smoke too:
Some of her has tabby marks and some doesn't, which is a mystery to me.
Ignore her nudey belly, she overgrooms 🥺
I just think she's neat.
Yeah, silver/smoke sometimes just randomly has regular non-affected patches, this is a documented phenomenon.
Remember when I discovered that in my town there's a smoke cat with white?? There's actually two more silvers!
First is this one silver with white. Her name is Julia(I kinda hate her because she's acting weird:\. Like one second, she demands to be pet, and the other second, she's scratching me violently... THEN DEMANDING PETS AGAIN)
And the second silver (belive it or not) is tipped silver! I don't have photos, but that was on 100% tipped silver X3
One guy had the cag on a leash (he was on a walk with the cat) and me asking, "Can I take a picture of your cat?" would be kinda awkward, especially when it started to rain.😅
So in my town there are silver cats, point cats and classic tabby cats and dilute cats. So, at least I know what recessive genes are running around here(also, a lot of cats are spotted or at least have broken pattern). My goal now is to find a ticked cat. How rare are they?? Do you think I have a chance at coming across a ticked cat??
That's a very cool silver, it looks like it has that dappling effect, when some patches are non-silvered.
Well, here (Hungary), ticked isn't very common, i don't remember seeing it on random cats on the streets, or in adoption groups, but i've never been focused on it that much, so possibly i just didn't notice it. But I've seen and noticed silvers and smokes, very-very few points, some blotcheds, lots of solids, dilutes, reds and torties and a couple of karpatis as well, so ticked is probably really rather rare. But your place can have totally different ratios, so i don't really know. Best to keep watching!
A Japanese channel I enjoy on YouTube, “DIY with Masa the Cat” had a stray come to him last year, who had several kittens. Do you think she may be a chimera, with both the dilute and bold orange colors, or just a variation of smoke calico? Some of the kittens, which were mostly orange and white, also had patches of dilute and regular orange.)
(Screenshots from the video uploaded 9/12/25 about the biotrope planter, if you want to see more images!)
I think this might be smoke throwing pseudomerle patches again.
