The academics had a discussion forum online but absolutely could not figure out who sent the books or why. So they asked for Ronson’s help. Eventually it took him to the home of Petter Norlund, a psychiatrist in Gothenburg, Sweden.
There are secondary characters who may or may not be fake online personalities with fake Facebook profiles. Who may or may not have been made up by Hofstadter, or suggested as such, by Petter Norlund.
The chapter is a study in obsessive-compulsive psychotic behavior, which might not always be used for monetary gain, but may be done because the psychopath thinks he’s smarter than everyone else, and can get away with fooling the world’s smartest people— neurologists (brain specialists).
The crowd sourcing, the anonymity, the list of clues, the riddle/ coding/ puzzle aspect, are all similar to RBB.
