Review of PTSD Coach
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has built an amazingly effective tool for coping with the symptoms of PTSD. PTSD Coach can be downloaded for free on the App Store or on Google Play. There is also an online version here.
The app and the site both begin by asking you what symptom is bothering you at the time. Once you have selected a symptom, you are asked to rate the severity of the symptom. It then guides you through a wide variety of tools and exercises based on your symptoms. Examples are: Deep breathing, Progressive Muscle Relaxation, Guided Imagery, Inspirational Quotations, Soothing Pictures (you set the pictures up before hand), Pleasant Music (you set the music up and it’s your music.)
When you distress is at a high level, it suggests that you call a crisis line or get in touch with a friend or family member.
This app made it possible for me to deal with stressful situations on a daily basis and has prevented me from having panic attacks on several occasions.
This is a plug for the (free!) app called PTSD Coach, because I've only had it for a few days but I have found it very useful already. It has a lot of information on PTSD itself, and how to seek treatment. It also lets you track your symptoms/assessments and distress levels before and after you use different tools they have, so you can learn what works well for you. I know I can't be the only person who finds comfort in data. There is something validating to me about tracking my symptoms. The app also lets you add a support network from your contacts list, add your favorite pictures (I added ones from the desert and of my cat), and add your favorite songs from off your phone. It can be kind of cheesy at times, which can feel slightly infantilizing, and it's marketed toward veterans, so if you aren’t a veteran that can feel slightly off, but beyond that, I really recommend trying it!
PTSD APP FOR IPHONE!
Guys my friend just gave me possibly the best resource ever.
It’s called PTSD Coach and it allows you to create an emergency contact list, a soothing music playlist, and an image album with soothing images and puts all of this stuff in the app so it’s all accessible in the event of an emergency or flashback or something.
It also has a whole bunch of information and other PTSD resources that I haven’t checked out yet fully but they look awesome.
Also you can log your progress and any mood fluctuations, etc. I’m still figuring it out but so far it’s AWESOME. Check it out!!
Just some help
to anyone with diagnosed PTSD or anyone that experiences PTSD symptoms:
there is an app called 'PTSD Coach' that starts by taking an assessment and every week you take one to see if anything has improved and if at any time of the day you are triggered there are several options of problems you can choose and it provides exercises to deal with emotions associated with trauma.
And if you're not already familiar with the PTSD Coach app, check it out - can really be a life saver...
