Lets talk about politics shall we? As a mere human being, I'm so frustrated, hurt and neglected by the way how this world runs, I have so many questions when it comes to politics, religions and when people treat their fellow humans like slaves, showing their superiority, ego, greed and power.

Our ancestors would have thought that the future is going to be promising and there would be abundance. But you guys know how each one of your countries are running and if your country is underdeveloped, developing or developed it doesn't matter what matters is, it's concerns towards it's people, it should progress in a positive way where it's people are provided with the protection, safety, opportunities and growth.

If you are not feeling safe in your own country, Is your country is moving forward or backwards?

Recent polling by Feeding America shows that 7 in 10 likely voters, with bipartisan support, want the federal government to do more to address food insecurity. Eighty-five percent of likely voters support increasing funding for The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) and 80% agree it’s possible to invest in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) while addressing other national priorities. You have an opportunity to help families and individuals access the food we all need to thrive by strengthening TEFAP and SNAP provisions in the next farm bill. This includes: - Doubling mandatory annual funding for TEFAP food purchases to help people facing hunger and support the U.S. agricultural economy. - Increasing annual funding for TEFAP storage and distribution to $200 million to help food banks offset the rising costs of storing, transporting and distributing nutritious foods from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. - Ensuring SNAP’s purchasing power aligns with rising grocery prices and provides adequate support during tough economic times. - Improving SNAP access for older adults, college students, veterans, working families, residents and other people who do not qualify for or are unable to participate in SNAP due to eligibility and enrollment barriers. - Improving assistance to individuals seeking employment by supporting effective state employment and job training programs and ensuring people have access to SNAP benefits as they find work. UK Disorder 2024

In the summer of 2024, United Kingdom erupted in riots that spread from major cities to small towns, shaking the nation to its core. While the spark for these disturbances might have been immediate grievances, the tinderbox had been building for years. These riots are a symptom of deeper issues that have been ignored for too long. Understanding and addressing these underlying causes is essential if we are to move forward as a society.

For years, many people in United Kingdom have voiced concerns about immigration policies and border control.

There is a perception among a significant portion of the population that the government has not done enough to secure the borders, leading to economic strain, cultural tensions, and a feeling of being unheard. This sentiment has been simmering, with communities feeling increasingly marginalised and ignored by those in power.

Successive governments have often promised to tackle these issues but have failed to take substantial action. Instead, they have been accused of playing lip service, making grand promises during election campaigns and then delivering little in the way of real change once in office. This cycle of unfulfilled promises has eroded trust in political leaders and institutions, creating a sense of disillusionment and frustration among the populace.

Another significant factor contributing to the unrest is the perceived inequality in policing. There have been numerous reports and accusations of discrimination within the police force, with officers treating people differently based on their skin colour, background, or nationality. This has fostered a sense of injustice and alienation, particularly among minority communities.

The police are supposed to be protectors of all citizens, yet when certain groups feel targeted or unfairly treated, it undermines the very foundation of trust that law enforcement relies upon. Reforming the police to ensure equal treatment for all is not just a matter of justice but a necessary step towards rebuilding trust and community cohesion.

A Path Forward

To move beyond the riots and address the root causes of this unrest, several steps need to be taken:

Listening to the People: The government must genuinely listen to the concerns of its citizens about immigration and border control. This doesn't mean giving in to xenophobia but rather addressing legitimate concerns about resources, integration, and national security in a balanced and fair manner.

Realistic and Effective Policies: Rather than making empty promises, the government needs to implement realistic and effective policies that can make a tangible difference. This includes investing in border security, streamlining immigration processes, and ensuring that newcomers are supported in integrating into society.

Police Reform: Comprehensive police reform is essential to ensure that all citizens are treated equally under the law. This involves training officers in cultural sensitivity, holding them accountable for discriminatory actions, and fostering a police culture that values equality and justice.

Community Engagement: Building bridges between different communities is crucial. This can be achieved through dialogue, community projects, and initiatives that promote understanding and cooperation between diverse groups.

The riots of 2024 are a wake-up call for United Kingdom. They are a manifestation of deep-seated issues that have been ignored for too long. Addressing these problems requires more than quick fixes or political rhetoric; it demands genuine engagement, realistic policy-making, and a commitment to justice and equality.

Bottom Up or Top Down?

The modern application of capital punishment fits best with the top-down approach. The federal death penalty is valid anywhere in the United States; it does not matter if the state has the death penalty or not. This implies that only the national government can deliver the penalty and ignores the difference of state law. This also fits top-down because it has a clear goal and policy tools. It could be argued that capital punishment has too many goals. For example, bring justice to victims, reduce costs, and prevent further crimes.

As winter approaches and temperatures dip below freezing, New York City's public housing population – roughly the size of Boston – continue to face the uncertainty of how the city will fund the Housing Authority's $30+ billion in needed repairs, including heating, elevators, lead, pests, and mold. (The New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) offers housing for lower-income New Yorkers – the average rent is currently $533 a month with a waitlist of over 180,000 families.) In a recent Gotham Gazette op-ed, Professor Nicholas Bloom advocates for transferring air rights from NYCHA developments for cash, as proposed by @Regionalplan. With a simple zoning amendment, NYCHA could raise up to $8 billion for repairs by selling off-air rights. Previously the city has tried to fund NYCHA's deficit by leasing public housing land to private developers (infill development) which has been politically unsuccessful. Bloom explains that transferring development rights would allow NYCHA to defer these attempts at infill development, preserving some of the city's last open spaces. But this solution does not address the low density of NYCHA superblocks which contain more than 75% open space. Bloom points to recent rezonings, such as East Midtown, that have allowed air rights transfers for commercial development: "It is hard, moreover, to have much empathy for city residents and their elected officials resistant to finding alternative funding sources for NYCHA. It is true that Mayor de Blasio has committed unprecedented local funds to NYCHA, but the City of New York has found much more additional money for generous labor contracts, ferries, new jails, and bike paths, while allowing NYCHA residents to face another winter with very old boilers." Should open space on public housing developments be preserved or developed? Or should the city transfer those development rights for cash?
