"Whispering," Whistling with Guitar and Novachord (Schonberger, V. Rose, Coburn) Horace Heidt presents Fred Lowery on Columbia. Fred Lowery was a blind professional whistler. Born in Palestine, Texas, he lost his sight at the age of 2, due to scarlet fever. At the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired in Austin he met a bird imitator who encouraged him to whistle. Lowery's impressive technique illustrates the difference between casual whistling and puccalo.
