vainglory  runs  through  her  veins   ,   cherry  lips  forming  into  a  grin   .       three  weeks  had  passed   ,   both  of  them  going  on  separate  missions   ——-   fighting  their  own  villains   .       marble  fingers  tighten  their  grip  on  her  cell  phone   ,   pressing  it  to  her  ear    ;    she    sighs    ,   long    &    hard   .       (     she  stops  herself  from  repeating  those  words   ,   for  she  is    TOO  PRIDEFUL    to  admit  her  feelings   .     )       a  moment  passes   ,   before  syllables  are  whispered  into  the  receiver   .

a  RUPTURE ;  it  extends  from  her  heart  in  the  form  of  heartache .   head  over  heart  is  what  she  knows  she  must  be ,   clinical  /  professional .   nimble  fingers  move  lightly  over  exposed  alablaster  tones  stained  in  shades  of  crimson  and  obsidian ,   a  faltered  voice  falling  from  her  lips  as  she  pulls  the  soft  but  war  torn  fabric  of  his  dress  shirt  up  to  review  his  patchwork .   she  wets  her  lips  as  she  overviews  him ,   murmurs  she  doesn't  even  realise  are  her  own  as  she  hovers  over  his  body .
