AFTER THE PUBLICATION of the twelve uses of dragon blood, albus was properly introduced into a certain part of society that he had only briefly glimpsed during his years at hogwarts. after his work with nicolas flamel was published, that introduction morphed into a more permanent setting. people, people he only knew through their work, wished to get to know him, have him attend parties, and make an appearance. most often than not, albus declined these offers; a life of mindless social gatherings was not one that tempted him. besides, he was a naturally reclusive person by nature.
yet this summer ( as happened most summers, the blaring heat, the mindless days, brought forth too many restless emotions, too many long put away memories, for him to ever enjoy the season ) his mind felt numb, his limbs itched, and past experience taught him such feelings only led to poor decision making on his part when left unchecked, when he continued to remain unsocial.
so, when an invitation from across the pond came to him, albus accepted. he did love to travel, after all, and he had never been to new york before. yet the actual soiree he was to attend was leaving a certain anxiety in his gut. it felt as if something, however gentle, however light, was crawling just on the surface of his mind. an expert of both legilimency as well as occlumency, he couldn’t help possessing a certain paranoia of what this could be --- and, as a result, the shield that always sits just over his thoughts, hardens until it resembled brick.
you nervous ? and the young woman who asks sounds, and looks, as sweet as sugar. albus supposes he must look rather odd, standing off to the side as he is. he smiles at her, politely. “ not at all ! though i must admit, i’ve never been to new york before, and, thus, know scarcely a person here. ”
