When it’s finally safe to travel again and the threat of Covid subsides, I would like to attend a Pumpkin Regatta! I can’t believe there are areas where they have this many giant pumpkins....and some that can fit two grown adult humans inside?! Also, is it just me or does this seem a little dangerous (very cold water) and like a ridiculously extreme sport that would be difficult to get “good” at? I’m not sure how long people have been competing formally or informally but it looks like the first official event, the Windsor Pumpkin Regatta in Nova Scotia, was founded by the son of an Atlantic Giant pumpkin breeder in 1999

Today in York a man rowed a pumpkin down the River Ouse.
He did it to bemused cheers under the watchful eye of the York Rescue service... who eventually did have to rescue him.
It made my day.
Turns out his name is Tom Pearcy and he works for York Maze. ‘HMS York Maze’ was carved into the side of the pumpkin.
York Maze (which in summer has a Maize Maze) is a local attraction that likes to throw itself into Halloween, so somehow finding out he works there makes everything slot into place.
Apparently he was trying to set the world record for the largest pumpkin boat. The pumpkin weighed 619kg. Which is a lot. Apparently there was no record set for this before, so he’s in with a shot.
The BBC interviewed him.
Good on you, Tom!
this is what people do where i’m from.
