Sam and Max AU: Roy G Biv

aka “Max’s Seven Deadly Vices”

Hi there! As I’m slowly hyperfixating on “Sam and Max: Freelance Police” by watching the tv series and playthroughs of the Telltale Games, I wanted to create some content/AU since the Sam and Max fandom seems small? I don’t know. I’m new to the fandom and I’m liking it so far. 

I got interested with Max’s vices from “The Bright Side of the Moon” and got inspired with an AU.

Basically, instead of three (the magic number) vices that Hugh Bliss takes, he takes four more based on the Seven Deadly Sins. So there are seven Max's the color of the rainbow running amok and Sam has to carry Max while running around collecting body parts.

Without further ado, here are the Seven Vices of Max:

Red Max: "Murderous Hand"-  A red Max who has Max's right hand and gun, likes to cause violence and mayhem. Eager to get in a fight and start one. He gets into fights with Orange Max and gets annoyed with Indigo and Violet a lot. 

Orange Max: "Jealous Eye"-  An orange Max who has Max's left eye. The other eye is green. Jealous of the other vices and other people he deems has better qualities than him. Would do anything to get his way. Seems to be the quiet normal one, but his true self shows anything to do with Sam. Usually follows Sam around (sometimes holding Sam’s hand) and stays in the background. Would be the original Max’s translator at times until Max get his mouth back. Out of all the vices, he dislikes Violet Max the most and has a rivalry with Yellow Max. If he's really jealous, has the power to be monstrous. Has the nickname "Pumpkin".

Yellow Max: "Greedy Fangs"- A yellow Max who has Max's mouth. A smooth-talker. Very greedy of money, food, items, and whatever else he likes. Does most of the talking and is the leader of the vices. Confident and calculating. Partners in crime with Green Max and gets along with him the most. Also can get possessive. Has an echoey effect in his voice. Gains a golden fang for some reason. Would do anything to get what he wants. Always comes up with a scheme. When he gets greedy and obtains more stuff, he grows bigger. Very wary of Orange Max and teases Indigo Max a lot. 

Green Max: "Gluttonous Stomach"- A green Max who has Max's stomach. Always hungry and voracious. Would eat anything and anyone. Only seems to listen and share with Yellow Max.

Blue Max: "Slothful Tail"- A blue Max who has Max's tail. Very lazy and depressed. The most relatable and "real" of the vices. Would rather lay around somewhere than deal with the others and the world.

Indigo Max: "Prideful Foot"- An indigo Max who has Max's left foot. Self-centered and feels like he's above it all. Thinks that he's the leader/ruler and that he tries to lead the others, but it fails. Tends to drag Blue Max along by the leg. Taps on his foot when he's annoyed.

Violet Max: "Lustful Ear"- A violet Max who has Max's right ear. Flirty to women, men, and the other vices. But leans to Sam especially. Begs Sam to play with him and pull his ears. He seems to be afraid of Orange Max only.

Now I don’t know if Max could write out his thoughts, telepathy can be at play, or sign language in this AU. If anyone has any ideas or this AU or would like to draw something, feel free to ask!

Pumpkin David has made an appearance! (and in case you can’t tell, yes he is not a real pumpkin, but this is the best I could do.) Hope you all like sweet Pumpkin David! You will see more of him later.

Pumpkin (Reference for “Seven Deadly Vices”)

“I’d rather have both my eyes green, but this will do. It makes me unique.”

“All I ask is that you leave me for last. Promise?”

“Propose this!”

“Shaky but determined response to join in while questioning everyone's sanity!"

“Pull it together, Sam!”

“Why do I have the feeling that a shameless reference has been made without me?”

"Okay then, where was I? Oh yeah, don't you dare exploit or hurt Sam that way! Max too, I guess."

At first, this was going to be like an art thing for one of the Sam and Max AU Ask Blogs that have recently popped up, but then it turned into an updated full reference art of one the main characters of my AU, so I went with it. So here’s what Jealous Vice Max or Pumpkin will look like in an upcoming fanfiction titled “Seven Deadly Vices” that I will put up on AO3 when it is done. 

Briefly, the Seven Deadly Vices AU or the Roy G Biv AU is simply what if Max had more vices than the canon three. It grew and expanded into something extraordinary for future stories, but for now, I’m going to focus on the AU’s version of Bright Side of the Moon. 

In "Seven Deadly Vices”, Hugh decides to take more body parts than necessary to ensure his plan, but in doing so, it not only increased his vices, but the vices each have special abilities. On their way to find Max’s vices, Sam and Max meet Pumpkin, an Orange Max who has Max’s eye and stayed behind, wanting to help the duo stop the other vices under the condition that they collect Max’s eye for last. For half the story, Pumpkin acts like Sam’s partner and Max’s translator at times whether it is understanding what the rabbit is trying to say, carrying him around, telling Sam about the vices’ special abilities, or helping getting the body parts back. 

At certain times and as Max gets his vices back, Pumpkin starts to grow vines and leaves in various places on his body as well as flowers that are the color of the vices that are collected so far. Pumpkin is self-conscious of these and wants to hide his plant aspects and powers from Sam. Seeing Pumpkin as a part of Max, Sam gives Pumpkin a badge and a fedora that he found somewhere for him to wear. As far as personality goes, Pumpkin acts like a fusion of Sam and Max’s personalities... on the surface. 

Anyway, this is what Pumpkin will look like for the majority of the fanfiction and in certain interactions with other AU’s in general. There are vines growing near his legs, leaves underneath his fedora and dirt in his feet. The lines at the beginning are quotes from the first three chapters of the story. Almost finished with chapter one. Pumpkin looks more refined here.

Prismatic and Rainbow Vices

A little thing I drew for @pushingcl0vers​ after I discovered we have similar AU’s involving Max’s vices: The Prismatic AU and The Seven Deadly Vices AU. So I decided to draw how the four Vices of each AU would react to each other (since the Canon vices I think remain the same?).

It was just so interesting seeing how similar yet different the vices are in terms of color, body placement, etc. I’ll start from top left again:

Pride- Oddly enough, coincidently both our versions take Max’s left foot. I currently have no idea of my Prideful Max so far except that he briefly hangs out with Slothful Max and one thought was taking over the moon. But seeing that the other Pride is in the White House, Prideful is like “Wait, why haven’t I thought of that?” I’d imagine the two walking and talking, most likely acting as the cool important people while basking in their pride (and secretly wanting to out-perform the other in a “friendly” rivalry). 

Greed- I like that their version of Greed is with the other hand and how he stays close to Sam to steal from him while I went with a smooth con-artist/teeth theme for mine. Well, at first I’d figure that the two Greed’s would try to steal from each other and con themselves, but then I remembered that Greedy Max grows in height when he starts to have a collection. Cue both Greed vices joining forces to wreck havoc on the suckers I mean city folk and take anything they want. Hopefully Greedy Max won’t put the other one in his inventory!

Lust- Huh... similar colors and complimentary ears. I’m still figuring out my version of Lust because I want to keep the flirty/a bit provocative side of Max while also making him more than just a gag or one-sided. While he is flirty and open, I also have him like dressing up and dancing. He likes big dresses and gowns especially and he’s also like a siren of sorts? In that he can sing and compels others to dance and give into their desires. I think Lustful Max would love to show his dress off to the other and the two become friends.

Envy- 

“... It’s like I am the only sane one in this group...”

“Exactly! What is up with that?!”

Like the Greeds, the Jealous Maxes are different entirely in terms of color and body part. Envy takes the other ear while Pumpkin takes one of Max’s eyes. At first, I thought they were going to be jealous of each other, but then I remembered Pumpkin being the one closest to Max based on personality and the “sane” one as he puts it, so I could imagine the two Jealous Maxes complaining about their respective counterparts. Pumpkin is also part pumpkin monster so I have him submerged in the ground with leaves around his waist. 

And finally, we have Prismatic Max and Rainbow Max hanging out together with blankets.  Probably both Sam’s were dimension traveling and decided to babysit the two or let them hang out since they been in similar situations. One key difference I saw was that while my Rainbow Max would enjoy/like his new form (at first), Prismatic Max does not. I could imagine the latter warning the other “it’s not worth it, you’ll regret it” while Rainbow is like quietly backing up in concern like “what happened?”

I hope this is okay and I tried with this. I’m more of a writer than an artist, but I really had fun with this.

Jealous Max aka “Pumpkin”

“Hey, Sam. Mind if I tag along? I could help with Bliss over here. Just don’t touch my eye...”

I couldn’t help it. After my last post explaining a Sam and Max: Save The World AU with the vices, I had to draw a picture of one of the most unique vices I created. Jealous Max or as the vices call him “Pumpkin” is a representation of Max’s jealous/envious side that Max rarely/subtly shows. He has Max’s “jealous eye” (the left eye) while the other eye is green. Other than being quiet, he acts like how Max normally acts at first, but it’s all a trick in hopes that he can be partners with Sam and get rid of the competition. You could usually find him near Sam and holding his free hand or slipping away somewhere to take care of business.

It will take a lot to let his true self and intentions show. Unlike the other vices, he can turn into a monster the more jealous he is. I don’t know if he’ll have plant powers or turn into an actual pumpkin, but since he’s orange, I’m like the pumpkin theme. Tried to find a reference for Max and drew him for the first time. This is how I first thought how Pumpkin is going to look. I have a lot of improvements to make.
