My entire FYP is Superman content so I’m gonna post something I’ve been thinking about the film since I saw it too.
Superman being told he has no rights to read because he’s an extraterrestrial is chilling especially when you remember in Creature Commandos during GI Robot’s trial the court saying that GI can be punished as a human because he is one in the eyes of the law. The same law that doesn’t see Superman as human enough for his rights to be read, despite Superman actually being flesh and blood.
Just these two moments being the first glimpses we see into this universe and them showing that the government will only see you as human as they deem is convenient for them is such good writing and really how I feel stories set in the same universe should act. You’re only a human when we need to put you in jail for killing a bunch of Nazis, and you’re only not a human when we need to put you in jail for stopping a war, the only goal of the government is to put you into jail.
