#MyBradford - Johna’s Punk History of Bradford.
In the final #MyBradford film, Johna Johnson takes a look back at how punk music influenced Bradford and it's inhabitants. As the genre celebrates forty years in the limelight, Johna chats to key figures from the scene and looks at what made punk much more than just musical trend. This is a snap-shot of a wider piece Johna hopes to make in the future.
British Library celebrates Punk
As part of the year-long celebration of all things punk in London, the British Library has delved into its archive to tell the story of the genre and its influence on music, fashion, print and graphic styles.
The Punk 1976-78 exhibition features recordings, fanzines, flyers, posters, and records from the Library’s archive (which has been supplemented with content from other private collections including John Savage’s England’s Dreaming archive, and items from the John Moores University in Liverpool).
We took the chance to visit the free exhibition and include some snaps for you below.
As well as the substantial exhibition (which takes up most of the upper-foyer), the Library has opened a punk pop-up shop which will also appeal to music fans, although those still living by the original values of punk rock, might feel slightly uncomfortable at the thought of buying remasters of the original punk records or reproduction posters and fanzines for substantially more than their original price. Given its location, it was great to see an extensive selection of punk related books on sale, though.
Punk at the British Library (and the pop-up punk store!) is open until Sunday 2nd October 2016. More details can be found here.
