Quite interesting blog post I stumbled on about one of my favorite "punksploitation" tracks ever, "Alltime Needletime Loser." I also added the link to the tune below, since the one in the article doesn't work.

Most of the time, these kinds of forgotten, punk rock trend-jumping, knock-off tunes that came'n'went circa 1977-80 were whipped up by last-ditch flare-pants wearing rockers who'd been stammering through Jethro Tull covers for years, saw the Sex Pistols get a lot of press, and figured they could easily do a stupid 3-chord song; or often the songs were attempts to mock the genre, thinking it was all a trend, then accidentally coming up with something pretty cool, given years to wear off the condescending edges. Sometimes they were just fun runs at doing whatever the (usually) temporary band thought was a "punk song."

This song from a studio "band" is kind of all three, and weirdly was released by the BBC's own label.

(Yeah, it happened all over TV too. See: The "Quincy" punk episode, the "CHiPS" punk episode -- though they are considerably more ridiculous than even the worst punksploitation single; and numerous talk show attempts to "understand" littered the afternoons too...)
