"When morality comes up against profit, it is seldom profit that loses."

The Purveyor is a Fourth Year
One of the first lessons you ever learned was that everyone needs something, and the best way to make yourself valuable is to provide something of value. Something in high demand. You can frame it as a public service, or just good old-fashioned entrepreneurship, but dealing was something you sort of fell into- a hobby, if you like. You were well suited for it, because people have always responded well to you. You have a charisma that somehow seems both natural and well-practiced; you’ve surprised even yourself with how far you can go on a counterfeit smile, equipped with a little savvy and a lot of charm. You don’t really need the money, but you do enjoy being needed. It’s your name that can be found on speed dials all around campus, it’s your face people recognize most in the halls. You don’t belong to one social circle, you seem to move between them all with ease. Being a “people person” pays off in all sorts of ways- namely a network of social connections that is probably the most extensive in the school. You’ve made it your business to know people; after all, your business depends on it.
On the night of the bonfire, The Purveyor was at the party with the rest of the student body. Business was booming that night. While they were aware that there was likely to be some element of hazing to occur that night, they remained uninvolved.
The student body of Augustine creates a thriving market of consumers, and so long as they have the stock, the Purveyor can easily dominate it. Prescription drugs always in high demand, and when offered a bottle of pills or two at reasonable price, they’re happy to take medications off of a willing student’s hands. They’ve developed such a relationship with The Pauper.
Even with such a relaxed business model, the economics of success relies on actual payment for goods and services. Buying on a little credit is harmless, and a show of good faith; but when the bill becomes hard to settle, it seems like finances might be a concern. The Imposter has found themselves continually in debt to the Purveyor; the Purveyor, in turn, has become curious about the story they’re obviously not telling.
Who better to keep at your side then your best customer? The Reveler can always be counted on to pay full-price for top shelf product, and over the years the mutually-beneficial relationship developed into an actual friendship. But lately, the Purveyor’s begun to notice how heavily the Reveler leans on them, how dependent they’ve become- not just on the drugs, but on the person supplying them. And when you’re trying to be everybody’s friend, you can’t dedicate all your time to just one person.

One is never just a #teacher: One is always - even if not #consciously - an #advocate of a #pointofview, a #critic of certain #positions, an #exemplar of someone trying to #communicate, a #purveyor of #images, a #practitioner of behavioral #standards, a #person dealing with, and indeed #responsible for, others in common tasks. In teaching, at least, the role of moral agent is #inescapable. -Robert Audi #Rufskin #ruflife #menswear #lifestyle #perspective #bts #love #lovelast (at Montezuma, Costa Rica)

Dear Gus & Magnus,
I used to travel to Huntsville for work a fair amount, and every time I came, I liked it more than I thought I would -- mostly the food and the fantastic walk through the park from my hotel to downtown restaurants -- but I also always thought I would like it more if I could show it to Mom. A few months ago, I noticed that one of her favorite musical acts was coming through Huntsville, so I booked it. Now we're here and it feels as great as I thought it would feel to be here with her.
Nene is staying with you two at our house this weekend.
