Sometimes I really don't get why did they decide to romanticize the unhealthiest relationship of all the German musicals in the Essen version of Elisabeth. This musical is literally about Todestrieb, what's there to romanticize. Then I just look at Uwe and Pia - and the cause suddenly seems obvious. Every single time. For so many years. (still love Vienna 1992 best, though; Essen production was a fluff fanfic comparing to the original version)
