Puzzle June Day Three - Eternal

Eternal

Yugi sat on the bed he shared with his boyfriend, tears streaming down his face. His mind was quiet, Mothra's beautiful musical hum long silenced in his mind. It was the first time since she'd come out of her cocoon that he had felt alone in his mind. He hated it, but he wondered why he was still alive. Why was he still here when she was gone?

Even Atem had died when Godzilla's heart had stopped, so why hadn't his? Shouldn't he be dead? It made him flash to something Mothra had told him once in her language of musical hums, cries, and chirps.

"We are eternal," She had said, "We are continuously born and die, only to be born again. We are our own mother, our own father."

Yugi blinked, before he gasped. The egg his grandpa had found! It was the reason! He was alive because she was still alive! He raced out of the room, and to the observation deck.

Atem turned from the window, frowning at Yugi's frenzied state, before it turned to a smile, "Godzilla says you must have figured it out," He replied, nodding to the giant lizard outside the window.

"I need to go to my grandpa. She's there with him. We're eternal."

Eternal

Darkness.

All around him was darkness.

He didn’t know how long he was here…. Didn’t know why he was here…. But he wanted out. Whoever he was.

Time had no meaning here. It could have been five minutes. It could have been centuries. It would not have mattered here.

There was nothing there.

Nothing but him. And his thoughts.

He sometimes hears voices but they fade just as quickly.

Maybe he was meant to stay here forever.

Maybe he deserved it.

But then there was warmth. A soft warmth. And an equally soft voice. He was scared that the voice would leave like so many others.

But it did not.

It grew stronger. Enough so that he can even understand their (his?) words. He devoured ever piece, holding it close to him. And then the most glorious thing happened.

He saw light. He felt. He breaths. And then there was another there. A filter over him. A filter that wanted to protect the boy. And so he shall.
