I walked right into that didn't I.
yeah i don’t really know what you expected there.
For the fanfic ask: "L: How many times do you usually revise your fic/chapter before posting?" and/or "N: Is there a fic you wish someone else would write (or finish) for you?"
L: It depends on the chapter really. Some of them just need a lot of harder passes over than I would give normally, and a lot of them time they just need to be reworked entirely. Since adopting this thing called “using outlines” I’ve had to do that less though. Usually only once.
N: I wish SOMEONE would finish THIS FIC on Ao3. I WONDER WHO THAT COULD BE AM I PASSIVE AGGRESSIVE ENOUGH FOR YOU YET
Fic I wish someone would write for me: Any fic I’m working on currently. Writing is hard.
For the "End of Year Ask": What’s your favourite piece of dialogue you wrote this year? (IIRC you said "Ozpin asks you what your favorite fairy tale is. You aren’t ready for this conversation." for best narration.)
Literally any Kaikaina Grif dialogue in Hocus Locus. It was all super fun to write, and I feel like I really got a good feel for her voice and how she thinks and acts. But it was just so fun. If I had to pick an absolute favorite:
"Well, if anywhere is haunted as shit, it's probably here." Tucker groaned. "We're going to find out that fucking Sarge is right or something and this is someone's hideout.""If it's someone's hideout, they need to get a way better bed." Kai said, thinking back to the night before when she'd flopped into bed with Tucker and a few too many drinks in her. "I mean, the camera in their bedroom didn't even have film in it, who even does that?"Washington just stared at her, his mouth open a little bit. "A camera?""Yeah, but it was totally bullshit." Kaikaina complained. "I thought that we were going to actually have some fun in this dump, and then there was nothing. How am I going to be the next great lady director if I can't even make a movie in bed?"
15 & 19 for the asks, please?
something you learned this year
Real talk: How em-dashes actually work. For real, I had no idea.
But for something that I actually learned this year? I never would have imagined that I would be able to write in second person. Even bigger than that? 2016 Mantis NEVER would have even ATTEMPTED to write a comedic fic.
So my biggest learning experience... comedic writing. For sure.
any new fics to start next year
I dunno if I’m going to have anything special come the new year because to be honest this month for me has been about clearing out some of the things that I'm sick of or have finished so they’re off my schedule. I dunno if there will be any near longfic or anything, and while I have a couple of things I’m working on I’m hoping to get them finished before the year ends. Ideally, I’d like to have something to look forward to I just... don’t think I’ll have anything that fits the bill right now.
HOWEVER, come 2018 I am planning to start publishing The Scrap File so that people can see the things I don’t like enough for Ao3 but still have written anyhow. It’ll be a look into the shameful, shameful tropes that I wallow in.
Including but not limited to: Never shipping York with the same person twice. Ripping off Ironwood’s arm. The Smut I Never Finish. Eternal sadness.
20 for the fanfic
20. Do you have a favorite fanfic or author? If so, tag them/post a link and share the love!
I’ve said it a few times before, but @pvoberstein could legitimately write a phone book or a fast food menu and I would drown in every word.
Link to the Ao3 place. It’s worth it, the stuff is all v good.
pvoberstein heeft gereageerd op je bericht “Is anyone else having trouble with AO3 notification e-mails?”
Yeah the AO3 servers changed their IP addresses and apparently it's causing a lot of emails to be auto-flagged as spam, particularly by Yahoo/AOL.
Yikes, that’s a mess. Let’s hope they’ll figure out how to fix it soon.
