I'm too emotional watching A league of their own.
The scene where Marla was saying goodbye to her dad, and he was telling her to not worry about him.
"You get to play baseball."
It means so much more now with the creation of the WPBL how many parents watched their daughters fall in love with the sport but being told that they would only get softball to play and being told they would only be able to go so far.
This movie is so much more emotional with knowing there are women who are playing where those women once got to be.
And now little girls see a future in the women who probably didn't know they would have one like this.
I actually don't like the fact that the WPBL exists. Baseball should have been integrated decades ago as a knock on effect of title ix and the fact that it hasn't been is just an obvious and disgusting case of sexism and misogyny. That being said I'll probably still catch games whenever I can, but it shouldn't exist. Baseball is a minimal contact sport, women (both in previous national/pro/semi-pro baseball leagues and softball leagues) and men hit, pitch, and catch at damn near identical averages so there's no reason why it's gender segregated besides the MLB being disgusting.
HEY. go here (if you are not in Canada or can use a VPN). watch hockey. beautiful women on ice!
allez victoire 😀
If a Professional Wheelchair Basketball League is starting in the US, I really hope a Canadian team can be involved. Like the NBA has the Toronto Raptors being the only Canadian team in that league. Had I known this Professional League had any chance of starting 5 years ago I wouldn’t have quit the sport or continued to ruin my body.. too late now.
