pwh!au is a 3rd life au made by me and a couple of my friends where scar dies early and grian joins dogwarts to secretly avenge him!

Hermittober Day 1 (Prompt 23/24: Life/Death)

What if you let him kill me, even after all we'd done together. What if his red blood ran down my sword, and you knelt for me, but I couldn't bring myself to kill you, too. What if we met in the hot desert, sun beating down on our backs and sand in our hair, surrounded in a ring of cactus. What if I said let the ghosts count us in and their voices echoed through the hollow world like memories. What if I cried as your blood soaked into the sand. What if I threw myself off the cliff because life alone, life without you, isn't worth living.

What if I hit the ground and it started over again. What if suddenly everyone was alive. What if you were alive. What if you offered me the world again and I said yes of course, like I hadn't before. What if we gathered in the village and it was an accident but this time my pledge was of loyalty instead of guilt. What if I swore to myself that I wouldn't cause the life to drain from your eyes again. What if somehow it was my fault even if it wasn't my blade, my fist, that killed you. What if I watched them cast you aside, soiling your memory with their twisted words and silver promises of life and safety and allies. What if I hated them more than before. What if I joined them anyway.What if it ended all the same, except you and your smile, your laughter, your stupid songs that I hated so much but miss so dearly now, weren't the last things I remembered. What if I died the same way I did before, except so much more alone. What if you weren't there to carry me home.

What then?
