Final thoughts on the Pyo Drama
Thank you everyone for being concerned about Pyo. As a whole, the community has been very supportive towards him after the incident, and has done their best to state how disappointed they were that an artist was chased off the net over something stupid, and then mocked by the one who did. A special thanks to garrysass for organizing a great big love letter to him, and thanks to raspbel, sinnohtrainerlucas, & ukriaz for being hella swell too. One last apology to the folks at pyokeke, I wish I could punch those who sent you death threats.
The fallout over the whole incident was odd to see: it sparked old fights about the nature of mogeko’s work and whether or not it’s acceptable to like their work in spite of the author, and whether or not all of mogeko’s mature content in their works were handled tastefully on the confessions blog. I personally did not enjoy seeing the tragedy of an artist leaving because someone kept saying his art looked too much like someone else’s get derailed into a mostly-unrelated conversation about ethics, but the argument would of happened again sooner or later so (and unfortunately the whole thing is still unresolved).
The other sad thing to see was how many people considered this the last straw and have decided to leave the fandom or are too scared to post a game just because some nay-sayer has a rude thing to say about it, and don’t want their tumblr life to be controlled by drama. To those getting out of here and going to a new site, have fun, keep making your game, good luck avoiding drama (but you know, it’s not inescapable forever). To those not confident enough post their games yet, I hope someday you will be able to. It takes courage to post anything artistic online, and it’s ok to take the time to build it up.
...I don’t think he’ll ever come back. At least, not back to tumblr. He’ll probably appear quietly on some other site, trying to mind his own business. I just hope he’ll be able to do art again for his own enjoyment one day. I don’t want anyone giving up on doing something they love just because someone else doesn’t like it.
I won’t answer any more questions on the Pyodrama after this post. One month is enough time.
Be kind to each other, and never be afraid to reach out to others for help if someone’s bothering you. You’re worth protecting.
