Pyromania vs pyrophilia

The main difference between them is that pyromania is an impulse control disorder related to setting fires and having a fascinating for such, this being very dangerous for both the person and even people around them if it gets very bad, and pyrophilia is a sexual based (paraphilic) disorder related to sexual gratification from flames as more than just a kink.

While some pyromaniacs gain gratification after setting fires, pyrophiliacs only focus on fire is that sexual gratification.

It's not uncommon for someone to have both pyromania and pyrophilia, but they do not go hand in hand and there absolutely is a distinction between the two.

Most times when a pyromaniac sets fire on purpose they do not have a reason behind doing so other than the feeling the get from giving in to their impulse, there is no reason of arson or revenge or the like.

While pyrophiliacs full intention is setting fires for sexual pleasure, arousal and gratification before and after setting fires. This goes beyond just having a fire related kink, Infact some cannot get off at all without fire being involved.

While they have similarities on the surface, these are two very different conditions that just both revolve around fire.
