IMO i think Dust sans would be a handplates au. I just like the idea hes already a Little Off from a clean slate sans, like if the no mercy routes never happened he couldve gone down the typical handplates. But now none of those things will be answered for him, hes forever going to have an empty world with a million questions about his past he can’t stand to answer. Or maybe in the empty world he can find his answer, but its not satisfying. Its empty without a brother to share it with, yknow?
It’d esp be interesting for waaay after hes assimilated into Nightmares group to kinda circle back around and remember the sorts of problems he used to have. Like… huh. He has access to a multiverse, thousands of universes similar to his, thousands of places he could genuinely get a complete answer. But does it… matter anymore? Would it do anything to know why W.D made him? Because he knows what he is now. Knowing whatever ‘sans’ was supposed to be isnt important anymore
