Kuspuk Week 2022, Day 5: In Korra’s Time! It’s the Kataang kids on Uncle Sokka’s “borrowed” Qamutiik. They’re totally NOT dangerously creating ice and pushing air behind them to get quickly across the water, before their parents realize they were out too long.

I know Bumi’s supposed to be the chaotic brother and Tenzin the orderly one, but you can’t tell me Tenzin wouldn’t be a bit too young and proud of his bending to realize the risks. And since Kaya’s doing her own crazy thing (she’s smart, stubborn and strong, but again a bit young at this point to consider all the risks) Bumi is left to worry about his two little siblings.
Here’s the original calories with no editing. Like usual, their faces got a little messed up once I went from sketch to pen. *sigh*. Tenzin got arrows and wind swirls (?) for his designs, and some super bright orange stripes lol. Poor kid stands out a lot, but I think at this point he would just be so excited to look like his Dad. He also has short hair because (headcanon) he wants to be able to get tattooed easily at any point. Katara tries to get him to grow out, but no dice. Tenzin hasn’t quite mastered the warmth-breathing technique yet, and definitely can’t do it while doing another airbending move. So he’s happy to wear his kuspuk and other warm clothing. And wear his hood up.
This is what happens when I use flash lolol. At least you can see that Kaya really is wearing blue, and not just purple and pink lol. I tried to give her a looped braid, as well as two braids with beads streaming behind her. Kaya’s ribbons are water lines, crescent moon, and some awkward fish. She is very excited for follow in Katara’s footsteps, and become an even better healer. But right now, she may or may not be using her powers for personal gain, lol.
I liked the expressions in this one a lot better, but such is life. Bumi is wearing green unlike his siblings because as (another hc) a preteen, he’s probably trying to find balance and connect to both ends of his heritage. Since Blue+Yellow=Green, it’s his favorite color at the time. Also, I think this is definitely close enough to the war that people are still wary of showing outright connections with the Fire Nation casually, so he’d probably avoid red, dark orange, or a lot of black. His ribbons are either just boomerangs (because Uncle Sokka is obviously his hero) or a mix of boomerangs, air swirls and water lines. His hair is in a tail on top of his head because he’s been growing a wolf tail but doesn’t want to shave the rest off just yet.
Also look at his face lol :). “These little shits should NOT have been able to talk me into this, why oh why do they have powers, they’re too crazy.”
