Ahhhhhh the schedule for queen city tuneup just came out and I don't think I've ever been so nervous for a Frisbee tournament. It'll be my first time playing outside and at a two day tournament since Centex last march. Ahhhhhhhhh.

Queen City Take Aways
Thoughts on this weekend: My pulls weren't as good as they could've been. I haven't been pulling out of bounds much in practice, but I did manage to pull a good amount out of bounds this weekend, despite there being negligible wind. Those OB pulls really hurt my team, and I have to just keep getting better with them. Along with my pulls, my hucks were also lackluster all weekend. I had a low completion percentage on them, and threw a few away that should have been easy goals. This may have come from the fast pace of the games this weekend complexed with sheer lack of execution. Gotta just keep practicing it. Although for a lot of the weekend I had decent decision making, I still had a few blips that stood out (like my stall 2 cross-field 40 yard blade that was obviously not completed), and I can do a better job of playing possession oriented offense. This includes things such as looking dump earlier, especially on the sidelines. One of my captains at some point told me that every time I'm on the field, I look like I'm trying to take over the point, but sometimes it's better to work within the team's system and trust that we can work as a unit with a uniform game plan. I have to do a better job of cutting to clear space, rather than cutting to get the disc every time. I also have to be decisive on defense and commit to something 100%. There were a few situations where I was caught between playing help defense or staying tight with my man. I have to make a strict decision and commit to it in these situations. This being said, I played some of my best zone offense yesterday. I was popping, which was a new role for me, but I had no turns, demanded the disc, swung the disc effectively, and converted every Z point I played. My man defense also improved on a whole. I was able to match up against some really athletic guys despite playing so many points this weekend.
A big struggle for me this weekend was my mental game. I got down on myself a lot on Saturday. I react well to people being harsh with me, so I almost expect to be reprimanded for my mistakes on the field, and if my teammates or coaches won't do it, I end up doing it to myself. One big thing that I learned this weekend was that my attitude, while beneficial to me, is not what is best for my team. Negativity, even if it directed to myself out of frustration, affects the attitude of my teammates around me. I have to internalize my anger better for the better interest of the team. This applies to staying calm on the field during foul discussions/while being fouled.
On a whole, this weekend proved to me that we can hang with great teams, and it's just the little things that sets us apart. We're on the cusp of breaking out as a program, I think, but this is the hardest step to take. No tournaments for another 3 weeks, so this is a perfect time to put in a lot of hard work. Gotta keep working hard!!!
Off to Queen City Tune Up!!! Let's see this hard work pay off.
Wish me luck.
"I wanna hear stories of some mysterious young #16 on northwestern just going beast mode and dominating people. Laying people out. Skying people. Being open by multiple yards every time."
