like. i keep bringing up goddamn derek morgan and penelope garcia when i talk abt platonic snowbarry bcuz WE COULD'VE HAD SUCH A GOOD PLATONIC RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN BARRY AND CAIT WITHOUT TREATING IRIS LIKE SHIT, IT'S SO EASY
criminal minds has a shitton of writing problems don't get me wrong, but morgan and garcia's friendship isn't one of them !!!! morgan and garcia and savannah are rock fucking solid. wanna know why? cuz savannah knows EVERYTHING. they don't change the way they talk abt each other around her. she KNOWS. and she's CHILL bcuz she KNOWS. she doesn't care bcuz she TRUSTS THE BOTH OF THEM and KNOWS and is RESPECTED by both of them consistently. garcia literally gives savannah a heads-up that they're coming up so savannah can surprise derek with a romantic dinner !!!! they go on a double date together on valentine's day when garcia's dating sam !!!!!
like ofc caitlin helps out with westallen; telling barry off when he's being creepy to iris, saving his friendship with iris by coming up with lightning psychosis (tho that was so disrespectful towards both iris and eddie, and we don't know if caitlin ever apologized for this lie), iris and caitlin's talk abt destiny before iris is sure she wants to pursue barry, they have that destiny talk bcuz caitlin's already noticed iris likes barry and she kindly kept it to herself, recommending couples therapy to iris if they needed it.
but then they pull all the other bullshit.
strengthening caitlin and iris' friendship only to let it die after that season. teasing snowbarry via having them get SA'ed by their lookalikes. improperly building caitlin and iris' friendship in the first place! never explicitly coming out to say yes/no caitlin does/doesn't have a crush on barry so there's just all this speculation from the crumbs. dwindling barry and caitlin's friendship as to not tease a romance and upset westallen shippers, aka taking the coward's way out. the general way iris and candice were treated by the writers and the fandom. they never talk abt barry being forcibly kissed by someone in caitlin's body again (arguably by caitlin herself, since frost wasn't in complete control, i've argued they seemed more blurred than anything in that particular episode), we don't know if iris knows, he doesn't get an apology for specifically that. caitlin also never gets to talk abt being forcibly kissed by a shapeshifter wearing barry's face, she never tells him and it's never brought back up. caitlin lied to iris so much to preserve barry's friendship with iris in an effort to keep iris out of the flash loop and relatively safe. caitlin and iris should've, realistically, bonded over losing eddie and ronnie around the same post-s1. caitlin and iris, realistically, should've interacted more in s3 considering they were both doomed by the future's narrative and could've been a source of comfort for one another during that time.
there's so much STUMBLING. so much wasted potential. and it could've been just so easily avoided.
i can easily avoid it. i'm ranting again. TO BE FAIR TO ME A RANT ABT WHETHER OR NOT I SHIPPED SNOWBARRY AS A QPR WAS REQUESTED IN AN ASK SO IM GOOD. but. yeah. god.
like when it comes to my headcanon of caitco being a qpr, i don't think there's physicality to that one. i don't think it's bcuz of a blur between the traditional lines between platonic/romantic or platonic/sexual, i think it's a blur between platonic/familial. they're life partners in the same way siblings are, it's just there's more room for lines to be crossed since they're not siblings, like cisco acknowledging she's hot or something.
but for qpr snowbarry. that's not how i see it. i also don't see it as blurring the lines of platonic/sexual like my qpr karolsen does. u know me, i think caitlin's ace, she does experience aesthetic attraction very strongly to me, just not sexual attraction. i think barry does know she's hot. i think caitlin does know he's hot. it's not on the level of actually having sex or having the desire to have sex, nor actually being in love or having a truely romantic crush, tho, to me; hence why i won't stfu abt garcia and morgan's friendship when bringing up platonic snowbarry, bcuz they're exactly what i mean. garcia and morgan's friendship isn't even labelled as queerplatonic (canonically or on a large basis by what i've seen fandom-wise), it's just understood as simply delicious platonic excellence. so, like, i do like qpr snowbarry, i think? but i think i also prefer unlabeled snowbarry more?
like, again to reference criminal minds, that one episode when garcia freaks out bcuz she thinks she hooked up with morgan and she doesn't actually want that bcuz she loves the way their friendship works too much to actualize a physical sexuality or real romance to it? like that. y'know? does that make sense? maybe? hm.
