DP x DC: Faster than Life

Part 2

"It can get weirder" was a sentence that Barry Allen was tired of saying, hearing, and even thinking.

First, he got struck by lightening and got powers. Then, he used those powers to become a vigilante, then hero, in order to save Central City from various villians and metahumans that popped up. Next, his mentor ended up being his arch-nemesis and they fought while jumping through the literal timestream.

And that's just in the first couple years of him being The Flash. Now, on a random Tuesday in May as he was eating his lunch on a bench in the park by the precinct, the thought has popped in his head again. Because about forty feet away from him, a glowing green portal had just appeared.

His first thought had been "A new metahuman?" as he slowly rose to his feet in case he needed to make a quick change into his hero counterpart. The green portal didn't look stable, it was undulating and pulsing in a manner that made it almost seem like it was trying to collapse on itself but forcing itself back open in the last couple seconds before it could blink out of existence.

It was when Barry took a step forward, towards the portal, that the thought crossed through his head unbidden once again. Because from the portal, a young boy emerged, immediately stumbling to his hands and knees on the ground. Barry saw, in the moment before he went down, the almost glowing green liquid (blood?) that seemed to be covering the boy and the fear in his eyes. As the kid was on the ground taking heaving breaths of air into his lungs, though he was stuttering through them as though his ribs were injured now that Barry was paying attention, something strange occurred. A Time Wraith leaned out of the portal, patted Danny gently on the head, almost like a parent would caress their child, and then straightened up and faced directly at Barry from the now 20 foot gap between him and the portal. The Time Wraith lifted one decaying hand, pointed directly at Barry's chest, and he heard a wheezing voice rattled out of a deflating lung say, "Protect... him..." before the Wraith slipped back into the portal which then collapsed out of existence.

"It can get weirder." Barry thought to himself as he reached to hit his earpiece.

"Y'know, if I ever got in bed with the Flash, you slurred across the bar to Diana, "I'd make him use his super speed on me. Just saying."

She smiled knowingly at your antics. A few Justice League members had decided to crash at the local bar after a successful mission, which put you in the predicament you were now in; stupidly drunk in front of your coworkers, including the man you were in love with (who was conveniently immune to alcohol with his speedster metabolism).

"You know I can hear you, right?" Barry said from beside you. You turned and faced him with a smile.

"Barry! I missed you."

"I've been here the whole time."

"Yeah, but I haven't seen you in a few seconds," you explained as if it made perfect sense.

The thing was, you and Barry Allen had unknowingly been dancing around each other for months. Both of you were convinced that your love was unrequited and would go on so for all eternity. However, a few carefully crafted plans (read: drinks) from your teammates might be what's needed to help you see the light.

"So," he started, "The Flash?" Since you would never return his feelings (according to him), he might as well get a laugh out of your antics, he figured. Talking about the Flash in third person as if you didn't just finish a mission with him (your coworker, Barry Allen, the Flash!).

"Yeahhh," you said. "He's like, the cutest."

That wasn't what he was expecting. Jokes about sex, maybe, but your earnesty took him by surprise.

"Really? Tell me more."

"Well, he's super smart. He's a chemicalist," you said matter-of-factly.

He laughed, "A chemist?"

"Yeah!" you agreed. "I'd like to make some chemistry with him."

At your words, Barry's face turned redder than the Flash's suit.

"What, uh--" he coughed, clearing his throat and shifting in his chair, "What kind of uh, chemistry?"

"Y'know. Bed chem," you said, swaying slightly on your bar stool. Barry, someone regaining his wits, put a hand out to steady you so you wouldn't fall.

"You don't know what you're saying. You're drunk."

"Yes I do, I say that all the time when I'm sober. Plus, it's fine. The Flash isn't here anyways."

"Right . . ." Barry glanced around the room, searching for some way to change the subject. Diana had left, now inspecting the Jukebox with J'onn. Hal was across the room, hustling a group of men at pool (where was his wingman when he needed him?). The other members had dispersed already.

"Oh, the bar's about to close!" Barry told you as he stood up. He was aware that his words were a blatant lie, and the bartender gave him a curious look, but didn't question it. "We'd better get you back to the headquarters before it gets too late."

"But I wanted another shot . . . " you trailed off as Barry wrapped his coat around your shoulders, pulling you away from the bar.

"No, no more for tonight. You need to get your sleep."

"Whatever you say, Mr. Hero," you said, laughing and leaning into his side as he led you out. "Hey, can you Flash us back? I really don't wanna walk."

Barry smiled, taking you in his arms and whisking you away faster than you could say chemicalist.

Once you arrived back at headquarters, Barry endured the arduous task of guiding you up the stairs and to the living quarters (seriously, who put stairs in here anyways?).

Finally reaching his door, Barry punched in the code and led you inside.

"Is the Flash inviting me into his bed?" you giggled.

Barry's face flushed again, "No--you're sleeping here so I can watch you until the alcohol gets out of your system. I'm gonna take the couch."

Barry led you to the bedroom, finding a glass of water and some pills for you to take to fend of your impeding hangover. Rummaging through his closet, he pulled out a t shirt and sweatpants, handing them to you and turning around so you could change.

"You could look, y'know. I won't mind," you teased, emboldened by the liquor still in your system.

"Just get dressed," Barry begged. He wasn't sure he could take any more of your teasing tonight.

"Yes, nurse," you said, and then bust out laughing like it was the funniest thing in the world. Barry turned, thankful to see you finally dressed and crawling into bed.

"I'll be here if you need anything, okay? I'm just outside the door," Barry said. The way he stood over you made you feel oddly childlike, and you fought off another bought of laughter from the situation.

"Goodnight," he said, flipping the lamp off and turning to exit the room.

"Barry?"

"Yeah?"

"Do you think we'd have good bed chem?"

Snart : The flash.

Mick : Straight to the point.

Lisa : Mostly gay to the point.
