I want to talk about how the qsmp federation dinner blended canon and non-canon "storylines", and just how effective that was for engaging Philza "the fourth wall is for other people and I'll sneak away mid-lore" Minecraft: Those who don't watch Philza streams might not know, but cc!Phil identifying when his eggs are not his eggs is a regular occurrence. He knows when Chayanne's admin is portraying Cucurucho, and when Tallulah's admin is subbing in to play Chayanne. Phil keeps track of which admin is which as a means of judging what scenarios are safe for them. He knows what skills he's taught them and even some of the hardware limitations they're working with. So when someone else steps in to play them, its a risk, because it means he doesn't know how his kids are going to act.

Philza takes about a minute and a half to call out "Tallulah" as not his egg. But if you watch closely, you can see that it took him less than 15 seconds to identify that the wrong person was playing her. Early in the dinner (4:52:50 on Phil's stream), Philza noticed and pointed out to his chat that the chef was lagging in a way that Tallulah normally lags. When "Tallulah" shows up to the dinner, there's a moment when he looks away from her-- he's not scanning for threats, he's checking that the chef was still around. And then giving a knowing look straight to camera. For a bit after that, he keeps looking back at the chef and talking to "Tallulah" like she's real. Because what cc!Phil hasn't decided at that point is whether or not this is canon. He knows the admins have to switch around for practical reasons, which have never been canon before.

But it's already a risk. This might be q!Tallulah, but it definitely isn't the Tallulah that cc!Phil knows how to predict and protect. All of the earnest, half-in-character conversations between Phil and Tallulah's admin about how they both want to keep her safe and how best to accomplish that are suddenly for naught, because the wrong person is on the other side of that screen.

While most of the characters and audience got to doubt reality when the eggs transformed, the same sort of process happened for cc!Phil and his chat as soon as the eggs showed up. What we were doubting was the line between canon and non-canon, but it tapped into much the same emotions while overriding the tongue-in-cheek approach to canon that normally holds sway in Phil's streams.

It's just so cool to see storytellers embrace the limitations of the medium to enhance the story they're telling like this. What a fun stream that was!

DINNER SUMMARY FOR EVERYONE WHO NEEDS IT:

earlier, most people got ready for the dinner (philza and etoiles literally got DECKED and ready for war, basically, both were sure it would be a trap)

quackity went to maxo and asked him to give him the names of those that caused the explosion that made him lose a candidate life or he would "make his life a living hell"

they went to the dinner, and waited to get served the food and suddenly "chayanne" and "tallulah" showed up

philza immediately clocked that they were not acting normally, and they had wrong skins (they were not cracked) and he even went back to check and their beds were back home, so he knew it wasnt the real ones. he let fit and forever know.

the candidates stepped up one by one to give their last speeches, and ElQuackity went last, suddenly goign off about "Fuck the Federation" and "if im elected the federation will end" which is super out of nowhere so. kinda sus.

all the candidates were asked to go to the stage to take group pictures, and "chayanne" and "tallulah" went in there too

Suddenly Philza was kicked from the server, the fake chayanne and tallula turned into code monsters and they started attacking the candidates (edit the morning after: someone pointed out that forever and cellbit crashed at the exact same time, therefore philza also probably crashed too. I disagree: he got kicked out right as the eggs turned into codes, and people started looking for him to know what to do, and he didnt come back until minutes later, when charlie had already lost a life and other people had been killed. I genuinely think he got kicked from the server at that time by an admin/the codes to sow confussion)

the attendees started being teleported around, and it took a while for philza to log back in, and everyone was panicking because they didnt know if it was the real chayanne or tallulah, and since phil wasnt there he couldnt confirm to them it wasnt the real eggs

they started to stall the codes from killing candidates, but slime/gegg lost his last candidate life

philza managed to get back in, and started screaming those arent his eggs and to kill the codes

him and etoiles basically had to duo pvp the two codes, and finally managed to kill them after a few minutes, it was tense as FUCK

the bodies of the codes had each a single item of the egg they were trying to pretend to be (tallulah had a maraca, chayanne the yellow signs), as well as a bunch of pictures of the parents with some eggs, but all of them were blurry/bad quality except for the one of tallulah and quackity that walter bob took, and a picture of philza, tallulah and chayanne that wsa taken in festa junina

everyone started to go on their own ways, ElQuackity and Maxo had an entire confrontation about if ElQ was from the federation and then maxo refused to tell him who caused the explosion besides himself. They fought eachother for a while, and then ElQ teleported away and disconnected.

foolish got called by the federation, and he got told to arrest pac and mike because "they had kidnapped mr mustard"

pac and mike went with him and they got teleported into seperate jail cells

cellbit interrogated foolish about it, since jaiden and forever saw pac and mike disappear, and afterwards he went back to his castle, where he got a book that told him to go to coordinates 0 0, where he and roier found a picture that eventually led to a page with the following information

jaiden spoke to foolish, and he lied to her, and told her that cucurucho had given him the option to either arrest pac and mike OR kill richarlyson. this did not happen. jaiden went back to cellbit and roier and gave them this information, so for now, foolish is out of suspicion from cellbit.

cellbit decoded that the "LAST SEEN AT" letters probably mean coordinates (67, 6393) and he's planning on going there with roier to see if they know what this missing item or creature might be

----------------------- Edit about two hours later (yes, im still here. it's 5 am for me. what has this server done to me)

cellbit and roier went to the coordinates, there he found a new book with more information: someone was "posted" there alone to be some kind of sentry? and the isolation was getting to them apparently; as well as two sudoku puzzles that together gave him the code to a locked chest. in the chest he found a brown sharestone that took him to a new location where after a few more enigma catboy enrichment time gave him a new book that indicates that there's someone aware of what might be happening, or maybe it happened before, and that if the book was their only chance they had then "whatever hope you have left will die along with you"

maximus explained to badboyhalo what happened with elquackity and the threats that he did to him. this led to bad saying the need to capture elquackity and lock him up -he also implied that he knows how to stop him from teleporting- and if needed interrogate him by any means necessary to get information about where real quackity is and what is going on with him

bad's trust in anyone is basically non-existent after what happened with foolish helping the federation to get pac and mike. my landduo heart is shattered.
