hmm i interpreted that wording as rejecting the idea that straight is the default, which IS perpetuated by the heteronormative society, so if you’re not straight, you’re obligated come out since that’s literally what the next words are. not as like… them trying to rewrite the history of coming out? but i see why u don’t lie it

ya i mean i think that's the generous interpretation and i don't think that person meant it in a bad way but like Critiques of Coming Out are valid and useful in affirming closeted people and in some ways disrupting assumed-straight-until-proven-otherwise but...i gotta be honest i think a lot of the rhetoric that positions like, coming out as reactionary or something straight in its design or passe or whatever is...reactionary, lol. like no one should have to come out and the choice not to is not less valuable, but denying that coming out has very specific origins in the gay lib movement and was in fact a central tenet of said movement...not super cool. let’s walk the walk abt respecting our elders etc.
