The Inward Light is unconditional love, yet at the same time, it is a searing of the soul. The Light pierces with total honesty into our behaviors, words and attitudes. This is not an easy thing to experience! In the refiner’s fire, metal is purified so that it can be made useful, as a tool or a sword. The fire of the Light likewise burns away the dross of life – the foolish or harmful things we have done – to reform us closer to the image of God.
