The number of Indigenous women in the province who have been subjected to forced sterilization and other forms of obstetric and gynecological violence is much higher than previously thought, according to a new report. On Tuesday, researchers at the Université du Québec en Abitibi-Témiscaminque (UQAT) released new findings – a follow-up to the first phase of their research published nearly four years ago. Anyone that lives in Quebec or surrounds will Not be surprised by what Angine de Poitrine have to offer. The music scene in Quebec is INSANE. There are hidden gems in there that will get 0 traction outside the province that are mindblowing. No one outside of Quebec will have heard the best and sometimes most famous bands doing stuff in the province. If my time in eastern Ontario has taught me anything it's that.
My first ever interview was with a punk band from just outside Montreal whose debut album was called Kim Jong Goes To CÉGEP. There was an insane Montreal jazz band that went viral recently. Muse and My Chem fans - there's a band from Trois Rivières called Absolight making exactly the music you're looking for. Their singer also kinda looks like Gerard Way, which to me adds to the MCR feels.
Klô Pelgag is an amazing artist and even made it to the Polaris Prize longlist last year. Les Shirleys, who got the call up to open for Foo Fighters at an intimate (for Foos; 4000 capacity hockey rink) are THE cool rock band you looking for. They broke a few months before The Beaches became Canada's phenomenon.
Don't take Toronto's approval of an artist's popularity (or lack thereof) as a sign of anything. They don't know that there are entire scenes out there they will never hear about.
Or, should I bring back the ‘Canadian propabanda’ 50-band long Canadian band recommendation post that crashes everyone's internet?
